There’s a lot of reasons to want the new 2011 V6, for starters, it cranks out a jaw dropping 305 horses, combine that with a few factory standard handling upgrades, and this Pony carves turns like an Olympic skier. But now, there’s yet another reason to want this lean machine, or make that three. All three of the Borla exhaust systems, the S-type the touring and the ATAK offer about the same power increase, they flow about the same, they relieve about the same amount of restriction. The real difference is going to be in the sound. The quieter touring system has a greater amount of sound absorbing composite filament for you stealth bomber types. The S-type, often refered to by Borla fans as the Stinger, gives you more sound output and features a slimmer straight through design. And then, there’s the ATAK, ATAK stands for Acoustically Tuned Applied Kinetics, and the technology is similar to our race proven multicore design, but the difference is in the cores, the quantity, size, and even the perforation patterns of the cores are custom tuned on a vehicle by vehicle basis. This process allows our engineers to shape the sound with the precision of a graphic equaliser. And the result is a pure, muscle car roar. With the highest decibel levels available on our street legal line up, and without any of that low end drone or that high end distortion you typically hear with big volume systems. In order to give you a quick comparison of the sound differences, we’re going to install each one of those systems you just saw on this 2011 V6 Mustang and go for some runs, starting with the touring exhaust. If you’re in a line of work, where you need your car to be quiet but fast, then you’ll want our touring exhaust. It incorporates the same straight through technology as our other systems, but the main difference is the amount of ceramic filament we incorporate within the muffler. With the touring exhaust, you can hear your hands free cell phone even if you have bad reception, or hold a conversation with a soft spoken passenger, but what I like most about it is the subdued growl. The note is just real nice and it gives you a chance to sneak up somebody who thinks your car is stock, and the exhaust is anything but stock. You’re not making any sacrifices for sound. When you punch it, you hear the growl and it kicks. I’m driving now with the S-type exhaust installed, as you can hear we’ve picked up quite a few decibels both inside, and outside the cabin. That concert you hear of steel and gears and combustion is enhanced by the high flow technology used in every Borla exhaust system. By engineering just the right mix of pipe diameter, and muffler configurations, combined with a few other secrets, we’re able to actually pull more air through the engine, which helps it breath easier, and ultimately makes more power. We’ve honed and perfected and evolved our S-type exhaust over three decades. It’s got a classic mix of volume and bite but it’s not overpowering, a lot of weekend racers are very happy living with this sound level in their daily commute. We spend a lot of time in Borla R&D talking about how our sound of power could also be described as the power of sound, and what we mean by that is our exhaust creates a visceral connection between the car and the driver, gives a much more detailed idea of what the car is doing, what it wants to do, what it needs to do and how it reacts to your input. So when we custom tune an ATAK exhaust, we’re not just trying to make it loud, we’re ensuring that its the most accurate reflection possible of the engine dynamics, to keep that channel of communication between you and the car as clear and as exciting as possible. And right now I think the engine is telling me we need to spend a little more time together at redline. I can’t believe I’m driving a Mustang V6 right now, just bolt on a Borla, and you’ve got a hot rod. Alright, that was awesome, these exhaust systems, like everything we build for the street, are manufactured from 300 series austenitic stainless steel, proven in test after test, to be the most durable alloy available for automotive exhaust applications, and they’re all backed by our million mile warranty, and that means when you bolt on a Borla, we’re behind you 100%. Thanks for watching and happy motoring.
