Tools Required

  • Socket Wrench
  • 1/4" Socket
  • 7/32" Socket--or--5.5 mm
  • 2" Socket Extender
  • 1/2" Box Wrench
  • 5/16" Box Wrench
Installation Time: 60 Mins

Installation

  1. On the 1993 Mustangs the Coil is located on the driver's side, under a cover with the vacuum diagram on it. It is next to the strut tower and washer fluid reservoir. For safety disconnect the battery cables using the box wrenches. Remember to always remove the negative cable first, and install it last.MSD 5.0 TFI Coil 8695 1
  2. Remove the plastic cover with the vacuum diagram on it.

  3. With the cover off, gently remove the distributor wire, and coil connector from the stock factory coil.MSD 5.0 TFI Coil 8695 2

  4. Remove the 4 screws holding to coil to the bracket. For this you will need the 7/32" Socket and extender. To access the bottom screws, you will need to gently pull/move the surrounding wires down out of the way.

  5. Now remove the stock factory coil, and replace it with your brand new MSD coil.
  6. Using the new screws and washers that came with the MSD coil, simply attach the coil in the stock location using a 1/4" socket.

  7. Now reconnect the distributor wire and the coil connector.
  8. Replace the plastic cover and reconnect the battery cables, positive first.
  9. Start up your Mustang and enjoy your new found power.
