Hey everybody, Dave here from AmericanMuscle, whether you know it or not, your car has a computer in it, that controls all of its functions, so to speak, is the cars brain. When Ford programmed your Mustang, they did so very conservatively, they made the car run on a low grade octane, and to give you a mediocre ride, that technically, was much more like a family sedan. Ford programmed these to appease the masses, not for the performance enthusiasts. The easiest way to fix this, get yourself a quality tune. This will go in and find that hidden, and otherwise wasted power. A tune recalibrates your factory programming, making adjustments to things such as your air/fuel ratio, your advance timing, and countless, countless other settings. On a stock Mustang, this is used to increase horse power, torque, and fuel efficiency. Essentially, putting the muscle back in your muscle car. Now, on a stock Mustang, a tuner will certainly unleash that hidden horse power and performance, but for the true enthusiasts who have modified the vehicle, it’s even more important. Since Ford programmed your car to run off its factory components, it is critical to recalibrate your computer each time you do an aftermarket upgrade. Take a cold air intake kit for example, this common modification will certainly increase air flow to your Mustang, because of this, you’re going to need to adjust your fuel ratio, without a tuner, your car will never make the corresponding changes, therefore, you’re never going to see the full potential from your cold air intake kit. On an 05-09 Mustang for example, you put a cold air intake kit on, you’ll see 5, maybe 10 horse power if it runs right. You couple that with a tune, now you’re looking at up to 30 horse power. At this point, you’re probably wondering how a tuner works, for this, I’m going to let Mike Wilson, our bama performance lead technician, take it from here. Mike? Well Dave, a tuner loads what we call tune files into your cars computer. A tune file is a collection of settings and adjustments that are applied to your vehicles computer all at one time. Custom Bama Tunes specific to your vehicle.

Street (87-93 octane) - The street tune is designed as a daily driver program that focuses on increasing mid-range power. Automatic vehicles are further enhanced by making adjustments to the transmission's shift points and firmness.

Performance (87-93 octane) - The Performance program is designed to add power at 3000 RPMs and higher, focusing more on the top end horsepower and all out performance driving. Timing, fuel and throttle response settings are slightly more aggressive than the street tune. This is a great track tune but also works well for daily drivers that are looking for a little more "get up and go" than the street tune. The automatic transmission settings are the same as in the street tune.

Race (91 - 93 octane) - The race tune will ensure the largest increase in vehicle performance. Using the highest grade of fuel available in your area is mandatory. This file is designed for "Race Use Only", as the timing, fuel, and throttle response settings are very aggressive. It is so aggressive that we do not recommend it for daily driving as it may cause your vehicle to try to jump out from a stop and easily spin the tires. On automatics, we implement entirely new shift points and firmness settings to further enhance the all-out performance of the vehicle.
