How to Install a Hood Scoop for a 2010-2012 Mustang

Tools Required

  • Phillips Head Screwdriver
  • Masking Tape
  • Center Punch
  • Drill & 3/16" Bit
Installation Time: 1 Hour

Installation

  1. Open the hood and remove the 13 plastic pins securing the under hood insulation to the under-side of the hood. Place the insulation to the side as you will re-install it later.

  2. Lower the hood and use the supplied alcohol prep pads to thoroughly were the hood scoop will adhere to the hood.

  3. Lay the hood upside down over something that won't scratch the paint. Peel the backing from the locator strips and place them over the holes on the underside of the scoop as shown. Press down firmly enough to seat them on the scoop, but not so much that they can't be removed easily.

  4. Place the scoop on the hood and align it as follows: the center line of the scoop should line up with the center line of the hood, the rear of the scoop should sit flush with the rear of the hood.

  5. With the scoop properly aligned, tape the locator strips to the hood as shown. Make sure to pull the strips taught before taping them down so they don't buckle when pulling the scoop up.

  6. With the locator strips securely taped to the hood, remove the scoop leaving the strips on the hood. With the scoop removed, center punch the four holes in the locator strips for drilling. then use a 3/16" bit, drill the four holes for mounting the scoop. Use light pressure when drilling to avoid denting the hood.

  7. Once the holes are drilled, peel the backing from the adhesive tape on the underside of the hood. Place the four foam tabs over the threaded holes in the scoop as shown.

  8. Place the scoop on the hood but do not press down yet to seat the adhesive. You may need to realign the scoop slightly to install the screws. Open the hood and install the 4 Phillips head screws and washers, securing the scoop to the hood. Once all four screws are secured in the scoop, close the hood and press down firmly to fully seat the adhesive tape.

  9. Re-install the under hood insulation removed in Step 1 to complete the installation of your Painted Mustang Hood Scoop from American Muscle.
